How we source our content
Every number, date and statistic in our blog posts is footnoted to a primary source that we verified. We prefer:
- FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization): Global Forest Resources Assessment, State of the World's Forests
- Global Forest Watch / WRI: Satellite-based tree cover loss data
- INPE (Brazil): PRODES Amazon deforestation monitoring
- IPCC, UNEP, World Bank: Climate and environmental assessments
- Peer-reviewed studies: Nature, Science, PNAS, and specialized journals
- Independent monitoring: Mongabay, Trase, and verified satellite analysis
We distinguish between deforestation (permanent conversion to other land use) and tree cover loss (includes fire, forestry rotation, natural disturbance). The numbers are not interchangeable, and we never mix them.

New posts are published as major data releases come out and when key events demand analysis. We don't publish on a fixed schedule — we publish when there's something worth saying and data to back it up.
